British Values
At Canvey Junior School we have created a curriculum that will not only inspire our children, but will instill British Values in each and every one of them. We aim to do this through teaching the children about: key historical moments in British history; studying famous British artists; teaching about, and sharing, our love of British composers and looking at great British inventors.
Through our School Council, the children learn the importance of democracy and that every voice can be listened to. They attend visits to Parliament to learn how a democratic government works, which they share with the whole school through their own assemblies. All the children in our school have a voice and have a say in decisions made about their education.
Every class has their own copy of the Golden Rules. These instill mutual respect for each other no matter what our differences and we teach respect for each others property as well as their learning environment.
We adapt our curriculum to meet the needs of our children. We ensure key dates in the year are covered, such as Remembrance Day. Any major news events from around the world are incorporated into lessons to ensure our children's understanding of the evolving world around them is developed. We teach our children how privileged they are to have access to a free education system and, as a school, we have adopted a child from South America and pay for her education. Our children receive updates, letters and drawings from her letting them know how well she is doing.
Children attend a variety of trips throughout the year to encourage a lifelong love of learning. Not only do we make the most of our surrounding history but we attend Art Galleries, Theatres and Castles to name but a few. Alongside our school trips we welcome a variety of visitors to our school such as the West Indian Steel Drum Band, The Bollywood Dance Company, Chris and Sue Govus and many more.
We believe our children experience a wide variety of activites and events that not only teach them about British Values but also an understanding of the wider world.
