P.E
At Canvey Junior School, we aim to provide high quality P.E and school sports and to encourage Physical Activity. Through these lessons and clubs, pupils may discover new skills and activities which identify their strengths and preferences to encourage active and healthy lifestyles for now and in the future.
The school provides all pupils with the full entitlement of two hours of high quality Physical Education a week. This is delivered through two lessons of 1 hour duration. Units of work are blocked so that for a set period of time all the lessons are in the same area of activity, e.g. Six weeks on gymnastics.
Each class is timetabled so that they can access the hall for one of their PE lessons and each class is timetabled for an outdoor PE lesson.
It is our aim that all children will receive at least two hours of High Quality PE provision and Physical Activity throughout the week. We aim to offer children opportunities to meet or exceed the government recommendation for two hours of High Quality PE per week through active lessons, extra-curricular clubs, festivals, competitions and activity breaks such as the daily mile and the outdoor gym.
The school follows the progressive scheme of work from Get Set 4 PE. The children have access to a variety of games activities; Canvey Junior School Curriculum Map is outlined below:
